Yeah... that's me with three Nintendo Wiis. Where should I begin?
How about the beginning -- Saturday, December 1. I'd been hunting for a Wii for a couple of weeks and had located nothing but a handful of dead-ends, one near-miss and a load of frustration.
How about the beginning -- Saturday, December 1. I'd been hunting for a Wii for a couple of weeks and had located nothing but a handful of dead-ends, one near-miss and a load of frustration.
Late that evening, after midnight, I was browsing the web and came across a PDF of the following day's Best Buy flier.
(*It's not uncommon for that information to get out -- the fliers actually arrive at the newspaper four or five days early!)
Anyway, Best Buy was advertising Wiis -- minimum 18 per store. So after a mere 5 hours of sleep, I bundled up and headed toward the mall. Much to my suprise, I was the first one in line!
By 8 AM I had a ticket and an hour later I was the proud owner of the newest member of the Nintendo console family. Once home, I unboxed it, plugged it in and fired it up. After creating our Miis and playing few games of Wii Sports, we went to put in Rayman: Raving Rabbids 2.
The optical drive made some strange clicking sounds and an error message appeared on the screen. I followed the instructions on screen, re-inserted the game an it loaded without incident. The error began cropping up more frequently, so I browsed the web for some more information and most of what I had found indicated that the Wii had a serious error and needed repair.
I called Nintendo, and using their advance replacement service, I received a new console five days later. Problem solved? Nope. The replacement that had sent me was worse than what I already had. There was a problem with the disc mechanism and it wouldn't even take a disc all the way into the drive before kicking it back out.
So after a very confusing call with Nintendo, a replacement for the replacement was on its way. It arrived five days later, completing my Wii trilogy. And while the fanfare wasn't as great as Jedi, the third installment is working fine. Minutes after I took the photo above, the first two Wiis were boxed up to be shipped back to Nintendo.
All this hubbub aside, we've had a fantastic time playing the Wii. We currently have Wii Sports, Wii Play and Rayman 2 and we're hoping to score a couple more games for Christmas next week -- maybe Mario Party 8 or Mario Galaxy.
